Is there anything that actually works for snoring?
Does anybody know anyone that uses some sort of snoring aid? If so, does it work and what is it?
The secret is to just keep the mouth shut all night long! As soon as the mouth opens, it’s game over! Trust me, I use to be the worst when it came to snoring. Now i just sleep on my stomach and make sure my face is in a position that my jaw won’t open while I’m sleeping.
how many people feel like their bed is like an oven?
for an awful long time I feel like the bed is like an oven. Every night for at least a couple of hours before bedtime I turn the bedclothes down. I have tried tonic water some years ago (at the suggestion of my doctor). My legs feel as though they are burning, so I put a cold flannel on them. to no avail. I apparently am not on the menopause any more. The bedroom windows are always left open, and there is certainly no heat on, but on saying that, quite often when I am sitting in the front room, the sweat practically rolls off me. The annoying part about it is, my husband has been retired for about 6 months, and he has gone from being pretty active to zilch , on his computer most of the day. He can climb into bed, and quite often be snoring his head off, whilst I am lying awake. There does not seem to be any logic in it, as I am on the go, and get tired, and there`s him not doing much of anything, and does not seem to have much of a problem sleeping
Try a fan on your side of the bed – bliss in this hot weather.
Doctor said my 5 years old daughter has enlarge tonsils and adenoid. They suggest me to have her remove her tonsils, but somehow, from what I read from the internet, it says that tonsil can shrink by itself and are known as a protectection from bacteria from entering the mouth, it is better not to remove tonsils until at least the child is 12 years old. I`m confuse wheteher to listen to the doctor or believe what I read. Somebody pls advise.
My daughter has not much problem, only that she cannot pronounces nasal letters like M/N properly, and she like to breath by her mouth when sleeping at night but not once that she sleeps snoring.
Get a second opinion. If this doctor is not a specialist, go to an ENT (or EENT: Eyes, Ears, Nose, Throat).
Does anyone have a young child who had a tonsillectomy for sleep apnea?
My 3 year old is tired all day and snores at night. I am going to take her to an ENT to discuss having her tonsils out. Has anyone’s child had this done to improve sleep apnea and have you noticed a difference? Thank you.
my SIL’s son is 8? and has cerebral palsy and recently had his tonsils out for his sleep apnea…it did improve the problem. this should be something entered into with MUCH thought, not lightly…your child’s ENT will be able to suggest the best course of action, whether it be a tonsillectomy or some other solution. good luck to you and your child! apnea can be a very serious problem.
Hello,
I am a 19 year old female and I always have problems sleeping when I am on vacation. I have never traveled alone but I am thinking about visiting Vancouver in Canada, or Massachusetts. I plan on staying in a hostel dorm to save money. When I do go on vacation with my parents I have problems sleeping because they both snore. I use earplugs and I take a sleeping pill like Sominex with 50mg of Diphenhydramine. I still only end up getting around 4 hours of sleep, I normally get around 8 to 8 and a half. And I only use sleeping aids when I go on vacation. I really need some help on sleeping better while on vacation.
I bring my own pillow on vacations.
I have a hard time falling asleep when I’m on vacation.
Why don’t people make snoring noises when they are awake?
I read an answer on here saying that snoring is caused by vibrations in the soft pallate from the person not being able to breath through the nose properly or from having inflamed adenoids.
Well why does this not affect them when they are awake?
snoring is caused by the genioglossus muscle ( muscle of the tongue ) relaxing and falling on itself in the posterior pharayngeal wall…. when we are asleep this muscle relaxes and blocks the passage of air… this is more pronounced when the person sleeps on his back, when the person sleeps on his side or in the prone position, the tongue falls away from the posterior pharyngeal wall, hence there is no snoring… pls check on line OBSTRUCTIVE SLEEP APNEA, there are lots of literature online that may be of help to you…
PS im a doctor, an anesthesiologist… securing the airway during anesthesia is a very important concern with my job…

EXPERTS Can loud snoring cause healing loss or tinnitus?
Tinnitus is ringing in the ear.
My b/f snores so loud, I can’t sleep, even with earplugs. Recently I hear high pitches sometimes in ear or swooshing sound but hearing in general seems fine.
B/f went to dr. and he just told b/f lose weight. Co-pays cost too much to just keep going back.
I know some of you worry about sleep apnea, in general he doesn’t seem to stop breathing or have sleepiness during the day. Only once he woke up gasping for air like he forgot to breathe.
The question is, sleeping next to him, can Iose hearing? It’s so loud, that he can be heard downstairs. Sometimes he’ll let out this enormous snore that even wakes him.
Uggghhh, going crazy!!!
I would be MORE worried that your BF has a sleep disorder.
My daughters husband had the SAME problem, she had to sleep on the couch, He had a sleep study done, and found out he had sleep apnea. Now sleeps with a CPAP, and NO MORE SNORING!!!!
PURSUE a sleep study for your BF!!! Don’t let them tell him to just loose weight, that will not solve his immediate problem!
BTW, you won’t develope tinnitus from his snoring, but you could have some hearing damage certainly!!!
How can I put my cat on a diet w/o her hating me or whining all day?
I was just looking to see if my cat’s snoring is harmful and it’s often associated with being fat. The Mexican guys who came to work on my shower called her fat too.
I would like to thin her up but I don’t know how to do it without her hating me. She’ll tell me when her food and water is empty. Or, more likely when the food she didn’t eat isn’t fresh enough for her. . .
I need to lose some weight too so we could go on a diet together!
Anyway, she is very strong willed and I can’t have her mad at me! Crazy expensive food isn’t the answer! Though i think i have seen weigh management
Help!
Lots of good nutrition info here but that’s not what I was asking – it’s how to deal with her being very pissed off that i’m not giving her as much food. And waking me up at night whining for more, etc. Because of certain circumstances I’m just concerned about her being mad at me. She’s got a personality just like me. . .
Firstly, how old is this cat? If this is an older cat, you are going to have to proceed SLOWLY. If an older cat loses too much weight too rapidly, it can cause a life threatening illness called Hepatic Lipidosis or Fatty Liver Disease. It CAN happen to younger cats too, if they drop weight too fast because of anorexia from an illness. But in older cats, just cutting back the food too quickly can bring it on.
So, you will want to stop free feeding your cat. (And please tell me you change her water every day and not when she runs out?)
If she is drinking alot of water, you need to take her to the vet. She may have developed diabetes.
If she is healthy other than the obesity, start feeding her 4 times a day. DO NOT free feed. Give only what she will clean up in one feeding. If there is any left over when she walks away pick it up and throw it away. I usually feed my cat at 5am, noonish, 5pm and right before I go to bed.
As to your question about her bothering you during the night, I trained my cat when she was a kitten not to wake us up. She would come tearing through the house and leap on the bed full bore and whoever she landed on was collateral damage. I remedied this by catching her in mid air several times and putting her in the bathroom. Her food, water and litterbox were in there and there was a rug she could lay on. We couldn’t hear her yelling and she quickly learned that 3am was NOT the time to play or beg for food. She would also get into things on the dressers and make a general nuisance of herself. I remedied this by throwing a small stuffed animal at her. It was no bigger than the size of my hand, so it wouldn’t hurt her or anything else it hit, but had enough weight that if it did hit her she would know it. Between these two things, it took her about 2 months to learn not to wake us at 3am. She will do it only occasionally now, because she can see the raccoons and possums from the front and back yards going past our bedroom window. The headboard is in front of the window, so we know if she comes running and leaps up looking out the window there is something outside.
I hope this helps. Cats ARE trainable, just not the same as dogs.
I was the maid of honor, and I also got drunk and passed out at friends wedding?
But they were the ones that owed me an apology because they took advantage of the situation. I passed out first and then threw up. nobody bothered to help me clean up or get me moved somewhere else. Instead while I was passed out, they “got back at me” by smearing wedding cake all over my face, put a microphone up to my mouth so everyone could laugh at how loud I was snoring, and took bubble favors and proceded to blow them in my face in hopes they would land in my mouth. Would you ever do something like that if I was at your wedding? THEY OWED ME AN APOLOGY, NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND!! Here is some advice for you brides, if you don’t want people to act that way, DON’T SERVE ALCOHOL!!!
No one twisted your arm and made you get so drunk you passed out and threw up at someones wedding. They did not behave like adults but, you should have refrained from alcohol if you can’t control yourself. I did not have alcohol at my wedding but only because my wife and I don’t drink. If you were at my wedding and were showing signs of inebriation, I would have someone escort you home.
For a mother, nothing can be sweeter than to hear her child’s mumbling gentle sounds in his/her sleep, but if the sound is the minor version of the adults’ snores, it might mean something else.
Take note of this, for infants and children, snoring will always be a strange and deadly predicament. Usually, the typical causes of this are sinusitis or adenoid enlargement. Sinusitis can be cured by simple decongestants and antibiotics. Adenoid enlargement meanwhile will require surgery, wherein the tonsils and adenoids will be removed.
Snoring for children on the other hand, can possibly be an indication of obstructive sleep apnea, where breathing stops for 60 seconds at most, and usually followed with a snort or gasp. And the truth is that sleep apnea is more delicate for children than for adults, parents should really pay attention to the possible sleeping disorder of their kids.
The common effect of snoring for young children is that they could possibly suffer from nighttime and cough asthma. So if adults are recommended not to disregard their snoring, then how much more for children.
There are also findings which claims that when a child in middle school shows lower academic performance, they are more likely snoring during this period.
All of these presented facts are enough to convince the parents to take the necessary actions the moment their children show such symptoms.
However, do not panic when such a situation happens. You can consult a physician first to ensure if the child has caught an illness related to snoring already. Meanwhile, if your child produces mild snoring, which is affected by certain allergy or illness, experts states that it can possibly be treated at home. More likely, the way you treat your cold.
The following are suggested methods:
• Saltwater, this is good to eradicate the blockage problems caused by the mucus. Though saltwater nasal drops are available in drugstores, however, one can do a formula at home. Just melt 1/4 teaspoon of salt in eight ounces of water. Sterilize the water by boiling it. You can place it in a nose dropper as soon as it cools down.
• You can also try to take oral decongestant intended for children. According to some doctors, decongestants doesn’t actually cure an allergy or cold, but it relieves the symptoms. It may reduce the snoring since it helps the children enhance their breathing. When using this medication, be sure to have the right dosage for the child’s age.
• Avoid products that include antihistamines, this can trigger snoring since this is identified to be a sedating medicine. Sedating medicines cut down the muscle tone of the throat’s tissues since it tends to relax muscles and nerves, when the muscle tone falls down, the tendency is that it will trigger snoring.
• Observe your child as he sleeps, then seek for the best position where he can keep his airway open, through this he will be able to breathe comfortably. M.D., Assistant Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology and Communicative Sciences and the Department of Pediatrics at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, Lucinda Halstead, said that there are some children who are comfortable in lying on their sides while their heads support a little on the headrest.
Keeping your children safe is one of your priorities as a parent. Taking the time out to observe them now would greatly diminish the chances of having bigger problems in the future.
