Is there a governing agency that monitors drug/alcohol rehab. policies and practices?
I voluntarily entered a rehab in Long Beach for help with alcoholism. At the time, I was so physically sick with head-cold/flu, and when they put this lady in the room, I complained and asked to change rooms (I COULD NOT SLEEP) because she snored SOOO LOUD. I was literally thrown out in a hospital gown, I was so sick, they had been giving me all kinds of knockout drugs, I had no shoes, no money (they couldn’t find their key for the locker where my personal belongings were), was dangerously close to a relapse, but they threw me out on the street anyway. They actually locked me out when I was – or so I was led to believe – there for help with my alcoholism. This was in 2001. In 2006 they started billiing me for this so called stay! I want to report this to some State Authority that will take this type of therapy and put a stop to it. I was shocked they would even consider billing me for their “services” . Any ideas anyone?
The logical thing to do would be to see an attorney. These bills will go on your credit record if ignored, even though they are unfair. Find an attorney fast and sue them.
People who snore can be funny but when you get to sleep with someone who snores loudly every night, it becomes annoying. That is why, it is important to know the ways to cure snoring.
Here are the following ways and methods to cure snoring:
Breathing exercise – Snoring happens when there is a blockage happening in the breathing passage, particularly at the throat area. And this blockage might be because of a tensed throat, wrong positioned jaw, or stuffed nose. Take several deep breaths in order to relax the throat and make breathing normal again.
Decongestants – There are instances wherein the cause of snoring is nasal congestion. Here, the person tends to breathe through his mouth which may trigger snoring. Taking decongestants will free any blockage and relieve the person from snoring.
Anti-allergy medications – There are some allergies that result to the enlargement of adenoids. Once the allergy is cured, the snoring usually stops.
Exercise and proper diet – If the person is obese, he probably snores. This is because there is fat concentration on the airways that limits the air to go in and out freely. Also, fat formation on the stomach restricts the diaphragm to perform properly. Thus, snoring occurs. In fact, around 40% of the obese population snores. Taking regular exercise and proper diet can reduce the weigh and stop snoring, not to mention other health risks associated with obesity.
Change of bed position – There are occasions wherein snoring is the result of wrong sleeping position. Sometimes, sleeping with too many pillows can stretch and narrow the air passage. Use one pillow to avoid it. Also, lying on the back can cause snoring. So, a change in sleeping position can be a good help.
Change of lifestyle – Smoking and alcohol can contribute to the onset of snoring. Snoring may be a result of other medical conditions caused by these two. So, to maintain a good and healthy life, the person should stop or reduce smoking and alcohol intake, which in turn can cure snoring.
Review medications – Antihistamines, sleeping pills, and other types of medications can worsen snoring.
Regular sleeping habits – There are two periods of sleep: the REM sleep where the person experiences frequent dreaming and deep sleep, and the Stage 1 sleep which should only be experienced during falling asleep but can also be experienced several times if the person is sleeping poorly. Both can trigger the development of unstable breathing that can cause snoring. Irregular sleeping can also cause respiratory instability that result to unstable breathing during sleep.
Saltwater nasal droops – Nasal congestion caused by mucus can disrupt sleep and can cause snoring. To prevent this, saltwater nasal drops can be used to flush out the mucus. There are over the counter saltwater nasal drops available in drugstores. However, you can also make it on your own. Dissolve ¼ teaspoon of salt in 8 ounces of sterilized water. Let the water cool down to body temperature and place it to a nose dropper.
However, if snoring is caused by other serious condition such as sleep apnea and enlargement of adenoids and/or tonsils, some surgical procedures like Laser Assisted Uvula Palatoplasty (LAUP) and radio frequency tissue ablation (RFTA) or Somnoplasty can be applied. It is important therefore to know the exact cause of snoring before taking any action.
Apparently, I not only snore, I sing and hold entire conversations in my sleep.
I don’t even shut up when I’m unconscious …. that’s going to be on my headstone.
“She’s finally shut up!”
I snore like a pig. In fact, I’m going to the doctors tomorrow to get my head sorted out; I broke my nose 6 times whilst growing up and an x-ray to find out why I kept getting sinusitis revealed the bones behind my nose are mashed liked a boxers. I have to get it sorted out because we are going on hols camping in August and I’ll wake everybody up.
My friend’s bulldog gets totally unconscious when sleeping

Going into memopause I had gained approximately 80 pounds. despite many attempts to exercise and diet which I would loose about 20/25 pounds then gain back 30. with in a 5 year period. Last year I had a hystorectomy and have gained approximately another 35/40 pounds and I am embarrased, depressed, can not sleep and developed a snoring problem as well as gasy pains in my stomache. This is taking a toll on my marriage despite my husbands warmth and support, but he deserves the woman he married. Realistically I don’t want to look twenty but I would like to look the best I can for my age. Because I have been so depressed my husband has purchased cruise tickets and I don’t want to be the “Fat Lady” around the pool. I know there are risk in any surgery, but living in this body I don’t feel alive and am willing to take any risk to look normal. I have always weighed around 125 minimum and 140 maximum. And I a now 241 and afraid of the heatlth factors.
I had gastric bypass surgery in April 2005. I started out at 268, now I’m 180 and holding. These links will help you in many ways to make a decision if this is for you or not. I vote yes, because it made such a difference in my life. I was taking 8 pills a day, and after my surgery, I lost my diabetes. The way they do the surgery, takes your diabetes away. I no longer have to take glucophage, and I no longer have high Cholesterol or high blood pressure. I’m down to 2 pills a day. I went from a size 26-28 to a 16-18.

I really researched my surgeon, and I made a wise choice. Always get a surgeon that has done at least 200 of these surgeries. Get someone with a lot of experience, and you will do well.
Here’s all about my surgeon…
You just can’t find a better surgeon than him! He’s probably done at least 500 of the surgeries, so far. I did so well after my surgery, I thank him every time I see him.
I made it to 175! It’s been almost 2 years since my surgery. I haven’t had any complications at all with my surgery! My health has been very good, and I’ve lost the weight nice and slow, so my body doesn’t look that much out of shape. I’ve been faithfully taking my vitamins, and my blood work came back excellent! I still think very highly of Dr. Pilkington, and would recommend to anyone thinking of this surgery, to have Dr. Pilkington as his or her surgeon. I’m walking proof, that he is an excellent doctor. I just spoke to another patient of his who told me she had a very good experience with him, and she is in excellent health, as well. He is a very caring doctor. I live in Florida in the winter. I see alot of folks down there because of my job, and I see people from all over the USA and overseas. Since my surgery, I’ve talked to lots of others that have had the surgery in Florida, and some of them didn’t do as well, and I tend to think it’s because their doctors weren’t as competent as mine. I feel that part of how you do, is because of your general health and attitude. The other major part is how good your doctor is.
Here’s a website that tells what to look for in a surgeon;
There is a very good web site by a guy named Basil White. He’s a govt. worker and a comedian. He walks you through everything. Very interesting. He had the surgery and did well. If you want an idea how people handle the surgery, read here!
Check out this link, this lady put her heart and soul into it, with lots of great info:

Vitamins I take… you have to be very faithful about taking them after surgery, because you can become very sick if you don’t. There were recommended by my surgeon and nutritionist.
Risks of Gastric Bypass Surgery
Gastric bypass surgery is considered the safest and most effective type of bariatric surgery. But as with any major surgery, the procedure does carry some risks.
My stomach is not working properly.. I have acid indigestion and gas. Any advise?? Help!!?
My symptoms are acid indigestion, gas .. I feel bloated a lot from time to time. I have loose and soft stool for almost a year. It is worse in the morning when I woke up and after eating.
I had an endoscopy and it shows redness and slight erosive areas.
I have basically tried everything from orange peel extract, GSE, protonix, water cure, gaviscon, pepto bismal, manuca honey, cabbage juice, probiotics, antacids, baking soda/vinegar …… nothing seems to cure it. I have snoring problem at night and i might be swallowing too much air.
I am trying the chinese medicine now… I don’t like Protonix because even though it helps, I can feel side effects coming.. I don’t want to be on it. I want something more natural. Any suggestions? Help!!
Have you ever thought of trying actual prescription medication?
Your acid/indigestion is probably GERD as a result from a hernia. This hernia, often called a hiatal hernia, occurs when part of the stomach protrudes through the diaphragm, preventing the stomach from closing off properly, and allows stomach acid to enter the esopheogus.
These hernias can only be fixed surgically, however many people opt to treat the symptoms of the GERD rather than the hernia itself. GERD can be managed by taking prescription medications such as prevacid and zantac. Long term use of these medications are not advisable though.
Many people find reliefe by losing weight if they are obese. Also and modifying your diet by eating smaller meals, avoiding processed foods such as hamburger helper, avoiding caffeine, alcohol, chocolate, greasy foods and spicey foods, and avoiding cigarette smoke may help.
I’m not sure why you have problems at the other end though. You could have irritable bowel.
It’s also possible that your hiatal hernia has turned into a paraesophageal hernia. This is where the stomach slides all the way up through the diaphragm and becomes trapped in your chest cavity. The stomach can also become trapped in the diaphragm causing the blood flow to be cut off. The latter is a life threatning situation that requires immediate surgery to prevent or minimize the death of stomach tissue.
plz. suggest some easy home remedies for snoring. Does homeopathy medicine help?
Severe snoring is often related to a condition called sleep apnea. Homeopathy is an excellent resource. Sleep apnea is not considered a self-help first-aid and acute care problem, though, so you’d have to consult with a certified homeopath for constitutional strengthening.
Everyone’s answers together are true, so maybe one will help you. Based on what I’ve seen people try, I’d vote for what helped Magdalena’s husband. Or, sleep in another room.
When choosing a stop snoring product there are a things to consider first. I wanted to first examine the causes of snoring and then look at treatments for snoring. When you can clearly see the causes of snoring and the remedies for snoring it will be easier to choose a stop snoring product.
What Causes Snoring?
One cause of snoring is Obstructive Sleep Apnea. Obstructive Sleep Apnea is a sleep dysfunction where there is a physical obstruction to the airways. This condition is more likely to happen to obese people, but people who have congenital abnormalities of the upper airways can also have Obstructive Sleep Apnea. If left untreated, Obstructive Sleep Apnea can cause serious complications such as lung failure and can also cause abnormalities of the heart.
Having a physical abnormality of enlarged adenoids can be a cause for snoring. This condition can cause the airways to be reduced in size or even collapse. The narrowed airway where the air flows through will cause the soft tissue inside your throat to vibrate and this vibration cause’s the sound you hear.
Medical Surgery;
Many people resort to surgery for help with snoring. There are several surgical methods available to control snoring, but even with surgery, the “cure” rate is under 50%. Another thing to consider when contemplating surgery is the cost; surgery for snore treatment is costly. Also; most health plans consider it an elective or cosmetic procedure and pay little if any of the cost.
CPAP;
(CPAP) or Continuous Positive Airway Pressure Appliances is a special sleep mask that connects to a pump, which applies pressure through the mask to keep the throat from collapsing. Most physicians will choose this first when treating Obstructive Sleep Apnea. The mask is effective if used regularly, but most people find the mask inconvenient and uncomfortable and will discontinue use in less than a year. Something else to consider when choosing this stop snoring product, cost, $1,000.00 to over $3,000.00.
Adjustable Orthopedic Beds;
Seldom advertised to control snoring, an adjustable bed may help the snorer and his partner sleep more peacefully. The Vancouver Sleep and Breathing Center claims that sleeping at an elevated level of 30 degrees reduces pressure on the diaphragm and helps keep the airways open. To have the head elevated may also help keep the tongue from collapsing against the uvula. Here again when considering this as a stop snoring product cost is a factor. The cost of a good adjustable orthopedic bed is $800.00 to $1,000.00.
Nasal Valve Dilators
The basic problem with nasal valve dilators is that they only help with the least common type of snoring, snoring due to clogged nasal passages. Of the two most common types of nasal valve dilators, the least expensive is an adhesive strip worn over the bridge of the nose while sleeping. The strips aren’t reusable and may fall off during sleep. Another problem is that the adhesive may cause skin irritation. They are not very effective, but they only cost about .80 cents per strip.
The other common type of nasal valve dilator is a flexible piece of plastic, the ends of which are inserted into the nostrils. This type of dilator is relatively uncomfortable and needs replacement several times a year, so they are not highly recommended. The cost is about $20.00 a pair.
Stop Snoring Sprays;
After considering all of the above, the stop snoring spray seems to be the most effective for the money. For those who have blockage due to swelling of the nasal passages or increased mucous, a nasal spray will provide temporary relief. One of the advantages of the spray is that it is not a pill, or mask or other device that has to be worn. There is no discomfort while sleeping. The other advantage is, a quality stop snoring spray will be an all-natural, homeopathic oral spray designed to help alleviate the symptoms that may be causing you to snore, so you and your partner can get the benefits that come with getting a better quality sleep. Another advantage is cost, $5.00 to $30.00.
