palate snoring
Pug with elongated soft palate- does she need surgery?

I got my pug about a month ago. She is 3yrs old and has an elongated soft palate. She was a breeder pug and had 2 litters of pups and then was spayed before I got her. The breeder said it isn’t a health issue but according to the internet it is…. She sounds like she is constantly snoring and when she eats fast she throws up. she plays ok but has a lower energy level for a pug. I am going to take her to the vet in about amonth but would like to hear other peoples experience, do you do surgery, how much does it cost, is it safe…..

Yes, I would say so. Elongated palates lead to airway obstruction, like you said the snoring, throwing up, snorting etc…If it goes for too long, depending on the degree, the dog can get inadequate air, leading to respiratory/cariac arrest. Often you want to get this done before destruction occurrs in the larynx. It can substantial years to your dogs life. Just think of all that laboring he’s doing now? Relieve him of this stress and get it taken care of. It should be shortened in surgery so it is not overlapping the epiglotits. Make sure your vet is familiar with this condition, and familiar with pugs.
God Bless!

Why do we snore?
