snoring breathing exercises

What are some things I can do, while still young, to prevent snoring in later years?

Food I can eat, breathing exercises I can do, etc.

Snoring cannot be prevent by the food you eat or breathing exercises. Most people think you are snoring because you are fat or unhealthy or never excercises But the real reason is people who snore often have too much throat and nasal tissue, or “floppy” tissue that is more prone to vibrate. The position of the tongue can also get in the way of smooth breathing. Evaluating how and when you snore will help you pinpoint whether the cause of your snoring is within your control or not.

I snore really loud in any sleep position (with my mouth open). Is it a big deal?

I previously asked this question. Thanks for the responses, but sleeping on my side or stomach doesn’t change things. I’m told I snore really loud in ANY position. Nasal strips and such don’t help because I sleep with my mouth open (I’m told wide). Going to a overnite sleep clinic just isn’t an option. Should I not worry about the snoring?

If you’re sleeping alone, it’s not a big deal.

Could my mom have sleep apnea?

I’ve noticed that when she sleeps she snores and sometimes her snoring will stop. During the periods that her snoring stops her stomach moves up and the back down really fast, as if you is breathing very hard or struggling. I talked to her about it before so she talked to her doctor. Her doctor told her that if she doesn’t experience tiredness, which she said she doesn’t, then she doesn’t have it, but because of what I observed while she was sleeping I think that she has it. Do you think she has it? If so, what should I do?
This often happens when she is sleeping on her back. When she sleeps on her side this doesn’t really happen.

Sleep apnea literally means no respiration during sleep. This is caused by the obstruction of the airways. Snorers and obese people are prone to this disorder. The patient snores excessively with increasing frequency, gasping for breath and eventually wakes up. This usually occurs several times. As a consequence, she may experience tiredness or lethargy during the daytime due to lack of sleep.

Consulting with a specialist is your best option. Several treatment modalities include special pillows, mouthpieces that prevent airway obstruction during sleep, continuous oxygen delivery devices, or at the extreme, surgical correction.

How long do cats live?

I have a fairly old cat, and i worry about her, but at the same time, it seems like she could go on forever.

My cat is about 15 years old, i woulden’t worry, but she has severe asthma (she always has since she was a kitten) She snores loudly, and wheezes but she is fine, she never complains, and she seems healthy otherwise (she is a bit fat and saggy, but after 3 litters of kittens, who wouldent be?) she was also neutered a while back, and i hear that can make them saggy. So how long do you think she has left? I am so worried im going to go home one day, and find my best friend dead. Also, any tips on prolonging kitty life would be apreciated (short of spending hundreds of dollars on a vet)

The cat I had when I was younger lived to be 21 years old.
She was a indoor cat (Indoor cats usually live longer then outdoor) only going outside a couple times a day. She was fixed and had a little bit of a saggy belly. Her last few years the only health issue she had was arthritis.

It’s hard to say how long your cat will live with the factors of having three litters and severe asthma.
She has lived a full 15 years and to me that is a sign she has been well loved and taken care of.
On average I think cats live 17 to 19 years. (Indoors)
A few can live till 22 if in good health.

I loved and still love my cat very much.
“One of the family”
It was sad when she past, but I know she is in Heaven arthritis free……. Running about as she did in her kitten years. Sleeping on the clouds in the warm sun and watching over me.

Dealing with cat asthma?

I have a 7 year old obese (but he’s on a diet!) cat named Olly.
I got him as a 10 week old from the humane society. As a kitten, we took him to the vet and they told us he had asthma.
When he was young, he would get too riled up and have “attacks” where he would stop and just start wheezing really bad like he couldn’t breathe.
Now that he’s old, the “attacks” don’t happen anymore. But he still wheezes a lot, especially when he’s laying down. And he snores.

I would just like some information on cat asthma. He’s fine, but i want to more about it.
Like, is there anything i can do to make him more comfortable?
Will it decrease his lifespan?
He doens’t get food all day. He gets fed twice a day and gets the recommended amount on his food bag.

My cat Boots is obese as well, 22lbs, and he wheezes and snores. This is a result of the fat putting pressure on his chest cavity and neck, which causes breathing difficulty. The best thing to do is focus on his ‘diet’. What is it, by the way? Special food?

The main thing to think about is also how much food he gets per day. Do you leave the food out all the time for them to pick at? If so, this will cause obesity. Read the suggestions based on weight on the food bag, and follow those closely. Make the change gradual, of course, but leaving food out all day leads to dry-food-junkies like my poor kitty.
