Does this sound like sleep apnea?

three year old who twitches (legs, arms) every now and then during sleep, sometimes breathes heavy…but is rib cage does not go inward…rather outward a little more than usual, his nostrils aren’t flaring, he is not gasping, but also sometimes seems to stop breathing for 2-3 seconds and then continues breathing again several times a night. Sometimes after the pause he takes a really deep breath and sometimes he doesn’t. When he twitches he will sometimes wake up briefly to resettle and then goes back to sleep. He does not snore and usually sleeps with his mouth closed. He prefers sleeping on his tummy though I try to keep him on his side…doesn’t seem to change anything?
I know there are different types of sleep apnea that doesn’t cause snoring. Or does this sound like the normal sleep patterns of a toddler? I don’t really watch people sleep so I’m not sure.

I’m not an expert but I’ve been around the medical field for 10+ years and that doesn’t sound like a typical case of apnea…BUT it also doesn’t sound normal. It may be a very mild case of apnea but sounds more like a slight case of hyponea (apnea-hypopnea). Definitely see a doctor and insist on seeing a sleep or pulmonary specialist, even if it’s just for piece of mind. Better safe than sorry.
