sudden snoring problem
feeling jolted awake in sleep?
Over the past few months i’ve been having problems sleeping sometimes. It’s only happened around 4-5 times. It’s like I am almost asleep, then all of a sudden I’m jolted awake and feel like I wasn’t breathing. My heart is usually beating faster than normal, but not racing and for a moment I’m confused. I can usually get myself to sleep in a matter of an hour but tonight it’s bad and I cant sleep at all. I am female and young(21) I have a heart murmur and mitral valve prolapse but never had any major problems before. I am not overweight, so I dont know what is causing this. I”ve always gritted my teeth at night(don’t know if that has anything to do with it) my husband is a sound sleeper so he doesn’t know if I snore or not. anyone have any advice?
It happens to me and is usually related to a dream. You cross into a light sleep and suddenly you’re awake again, it seems you never actually fell asleep, but you did.
For me it’s usually either a falling dream or chase, something like that. The physical jolt you feel is your dream reactions breaking through to your body (basically passing through your normal “dream barrier” to take some control of your body. It’s a mini-version of sleep-walking and very disturbing, especially when you don’t actually remember the dream.
Last week I had a dream that had me wake up in total panic, heart beating as if I had been running, my body was tense and it was hard to get back to sleep until my body had calmed down.
I found that certain sleep positions made it more likely to happen, so I avoid those positions in bed.
