Dealing with cat asthma?

I have a 7 year old obese (but he’s on a diet!) cat named Olly.
I got him as a 10 week old from the humane society. As a kitten, we took him to the vet and they told us he had asthma.
When he was young, he would get too riled up and have “attacks” where he would stop and just start wheezing really bad like he couldn’t breathe.
Now that he’s old, the “attacks” don’t happen anymore. But he still wheezes a lot, especially when he’s laying down. And he snores.

I would just like some information on cat asthma. He’s fine, but i want to more about it.
Like, is there anything i can do to make him more comfortable?
Will it decrease his lifespan?
He doens’t get food all day. He gets fed twice a day and gets the recommended amount on his food bag.

My cat Boots is obese as well, 22lbs, and he wheezes and snores. This is a result of the fat putting pressure on his chest cavity and neck, which causes breathing difficulty. The best thing to do is focus on his ‘diet’. What is it, by the way? Special food?

The main thing to think about is also how much food he gets per day. Do you leave the food out all the time for them to pick at? If so, this will cause obesity. Read the suggestions based on weight on the food bag, and follow those closely. Make the change gradual, of course, but leaving food out all day leads to dry-food-junkies like my poor kitty.
