Do you think tonsils should be removed from birth?

Thinks about it: swolen tonsils cause sleep apnea and snoring and may also be caused buy or cause strep throat which keeps many kids out of school a yeat. Many infants and children die from sleep apnea and snoring bothers the crap ouit of all of us. I personally think they should be removed but i want other opinions. Yes I know the tonsils have a role but ive had mine removed along with my adnoids and I might have had strep once and it was very minor. So think about it.

No.

You have to look at the benefit/risk to the infant. Having surgery would pose more of a risk to the infant than any future complications that the infant may or may not even have from the tonsils ever would.

If a child gets older and starts having problems with the tonsils, then having the surgery is worth whatever the risks of the surgery might be. But its silly to subject a newborn to a surgical procedure that you don’t even know whether he/she will ever actually need.

(And that’s not even taking the cost into consideration – hospital bills for a newborn are expensive enough as it is, without adding a mandatory surgery that may not even have any real benefit for that infant.)
