snoring on your side

How can I stop snoring?
I am a 49 year old female, 5 foot 1 inch and I weigh 144 pounds. I have noticed (and so has my husband) that I snore quite frequently during the night.I tend to sleep more on my back and that’s when I notice that I snore. When I sleep on my side I don’t but I was wondering if there were other treatments or remedies other than this.
There are any number of reasons for this condition.
It’s best to speak to your physician about this. And it’s important to say that it’s affecting your sleep and you feel tired the next morning. You could also say that it is affecting your relationship with your husband and especially if you find it necessary to sleep in the spare room so that he gets his sleep.
At 144 pounds for your height, you would be considered ‘overweight’ and this can be a contributing factor.
Your physician can best advise you on your condition and offer treatment. Best to talk to the doctor first.
If unchecked, it may lead to Sleep Apnea and that is quite serious.
You could try those nasal strips that you place over your nose to help open the nostrils. Or sew a walnut or tennis ball into the back of a pyjama top so that it causes you discomfort in your upper back. You’ll turn onto your side to avoid the discomfort. You could use a bolster (long pillow) to support you on your side or sleep in the ‘recovery position’ – that’s my personal solution.
