dog snoring

My dog snores all the time, and I can’t sleep. What do I do to make her stop snoring?
Earplugs. That, and turn the thermostat down a bit. I’ve noticed that my dogs don’t snore when they are curled up in the “normal sleeping dog” position (sorry, don’t know what else to call it
but when sprawled out they snore like crazy. So, during the summer, when it’s hot — they snore. During the winter, they don’t.

can snoring cause a stroke
July 27, 2010I’m a sleep tech, and I know what this is, but I want to ask everyone if they or someone they know uses a CPAP
How many of you use, or know someone who uses a CPAP machine at night to help them breathe and not to snore?
I am very curious about this, since CPAPs save lives all over the world. I think we all need more education on CPAP machines, and we need to spread the word that if people snore or stop breathing at night, they should have a sleep study done.
Sleep Apnea causes high blood pressure, can cause strokes and heart attacks. It sometimes makes people have heartburn at night, and makes them sleepy during the day. People can become forgetful or irritated. This is just a short list of all the damage that having untreated sleep apnea can cause.
I know many, in my personal life, who use C-paps or Bipaps. I most likely know more because I am an RT. I just found out that my Sunday school leader uses one today. We talked about it and different masks for 10 or 15 minutes.

Snoring can be aggravating, it may be a symptom of something more seriously wrong with your health. The sound and noise of snoring is caused by the vibration of the soft tissues in the throat, and can be annoying not only to the actual snorer but also to their partners who have to deal with the sound of the snoring throughout the night.
There are different kinds of anti snore device products that you can use to try and treat your snoring condition. Before you go ahead and choose any stop snoring device, you should learn about the options that are accessible to you and make an educated decision on which would be appropriate to you.
One of the most popular anti snore device products is the nasal strips. They are used to widen the nasal valve and thus open up the airway to the throat and lungs. This allows the air to be more easily transported through the throat and thus relieves one’s snoring.
The next one is the Chin strap. The advantage of using anti snoring chin straps is that they are very effective, non-invasive and do not cost a lot either. These reasons should be sufficient for a person that is bothered with the snoring bug to go out and purchase an anti snoring chin strap and stop the troublesome habit. It is a device that many medical experts suggest to those that are snorers. It has been found to be effective as well as economical.
Various research studies also developed the dental devices which reduces or eliminates snoring by up to 90%. The beauty of this device is that it can be purchased over the counter. It consists of two small dental trays, which fit over the teeth. The consumer will adapt these trays to his own teeth with an included resilient lining material.
Snoring needs to be controlled and stopped. Otherwise, it could lead to a person having interrupted sleep. It has also been found through research that snoring can be a direct cause of sleep apnea and thus care should be taken to control it totally.
So in summary, choosing the most suitable stop snoring device is really a question of personal preference and affordability. It is also advisable for anyone who is considering devices or treatment for snoring to consult their doctor. They will be able to advise on an individual basis, what they feel may be the most suitable for them to use.

July 25, 2010Why is my cat coughing and having difficulty breathing after spaying & 2 teeth extractions?
My 11 year old cat just came back from surgery – she was spayed and had her teeth cleaned with 2 teeth extractions. She seems to be having problems breathing – it sounds like she is wheezing or lightly snoring. And occasionally, she kind of chokes or coughs, sounding like there’s water or mucus in her throat/lungs. Should I be worried?
Thank you for all your help. I’ve called my vet who performed the surgery and they said it could be just the ET tube like what some of you are saying. They told me to monitor her for 2 days and if it gets worse then contact them again.
You should be concerned due to her age, and if she was mine I would call the vet and let them know what she is doing.
The coughing/wheezing sounds you are hearing are probably from the endotracheal tube that was put in place prior to surgery. This tube is inserted for a couple of purposes. First, to close off the lungs from any regurgitation from the stomach going into the lungs, and second to supply oxygen to the lungs. I couldn’t find a link with a kitty, but the link below will give you an idea of the placement of this tube.
An endotracheal tube is especially important while teeth are being clean. For a kitty, the teeth are cleaned with a water pik like instrument. The endotracheal tube prevents any of the water from going into kitty’s throat and lungs.
Since kitty had two procedures, the spay and the teeth cleaning, she was probably under anesthesia for quite a while..I am guessing at least an hour. So the tube being in place for that long could have irritated her throat.
Just to ease your worries, contact her vet and see what he/she recommends for making her more comfortable.
Purrs to you and kitty.

July 25, 2010What is THE ULTIMATE SLEEPING POSTURE?
What is THE ULTIMATE SLEEPING POSTURE?
I snore like a Banshee wolf! if I sleep lying flat on my back.
In aim to cure this breathing condition, I place my pillows underneath my knees instead of behind my head. This not only keeps me lying on my back as I sleep, keeping my head level with my shoulders helps control my snoring.
I’m wondering what this “raised-knee” position might create in my posture.
I hope it is not causing any (maybe a CIRCULATORY-issue to my legs?) while I sleep.
Should I try some other posture to control my snoring? – Sleeping on my sides CREATES a breathing problem, which makes me snore!
Lying on my stomach is no good because I get sore shoulders lying in this position.
Thanks for suggestions / ideas I can try.
They actually have pillows that are created to be used under the knees for people with certain back issues (for example, I have no curve in my lower back, so those help when I lay on my back, though I do sleep on my side) I would suggest a small (not very high) pillow to support the weight of the head, otherwise, after a few nights you might find that you wake with a tight neck or shoulders from strain on the neck.
